Week 8: Adventures of a new missionary!

Well let me start off with a funny story that happened last night. My companion and I are in the family history library at the church. We are doing online training and other things when we hear this alarm going off in the building. The lights were off and we are in this room, unknowing what was happening outside. The library is a room where you have to have a key to get in, so we were safe. We thought someone was in the building though, so we turned out the lights and I pulled out my pepper spray. We called TWO ward members and they for the lack of a better term, were taking their sweet time or didn't even care that we were in the church with this alarm going off. Anyway... We heard the other ward's sisters in the hallway and so we opened the door. We ended up all in the library. The other sisters called their Bishop and he came down. Bahaha guess what it was??? It was the smoke alarm battery that gave out. How silly we were! I am still laughing. At the time though, I was really concerned!

We have these two miracle investigators that are on date for baptism!!!! They kept asking how to be a part of the church, they keep their commitments, plus they want to watch general conference! They picked their date at the end of April. Miracles really do happen. "Obedience brings blessings, but exact obedience brings miracles." I am so excited for these ladies. My heart is full of love and peace. When my companion and I have a rough time with other people we just remind ourselves of these two ladies. They truly are wonderful people.

I did not get transferred, neither did my companion. I feel like time has gone by so fast! (knock on wood) I look back and see where I was, to where I am now, and it is just mind blowing. I still have a long ways to go!

I find joy passing out stickers to kids. Haha I think it will be my thing now. Plus putting stickers in my journal and writing in different colors (Thank you Yvonne!) makes me happy.

I love and miss you all!

Week 7: It's Twilight!

I got to go to the Twilight house!!!! We were on exchanges and my companion was in my area before and forgot to take pictures, so our reason behind going to the Twilight house was that there is a part member family across the street from the twilight house. We knocked thinking we were going to do our missionary speech, but no one answered, so we took pictures. (mom should have them) Then we went and talked to a whole bunch of people on our way to the alleyway where Bella walks through, and took pictures. Halloweentown was filmed right across the street from the alleyway. The movie theater and where they have the pumpkin in the middle of town. All the while we are stopping people and talking to them.

Anyway that is all I can think about to write today. Days feel like weeks, and weeks feel like days. It is crazy to think that I am almost done with my first transfer. Oh! Side note: I am a Lisa Ellsworth. I cry like all the time. It has gotten better, and mainly for spiritual experiences. I now understand what Sister Ellsworth means by potential. To see where people are, and being able to where they can go, and what they can become.  I am so grateful for this woman's testimony.

I got a letter from Sister Hall (Shelby) and she is so funny. I laughed out loud. Plus she gave me some stickers to give to kiddos.

I am excited for general conference!!! We are watching it at a less active's home.

That's my life right now.

I love you all!

Week 6: March 9-16 2015

Hello everyone!

I witnessed a miracle. Sister Forsyth and I were walking on our way to
meet with some elderly members, when she felt like she needed to knock
on a particular door, so that is what we did. It was the only door we
knocked on that day. Guess what.... She said we could come back! When
we come again the girl's mom joins us and we start getting to know
them. It is so apparent that these two women have been prepared to
hear the gospel. They have had prayers answered, they have had
personal experiences happen, and they are both perceptive to the
spirit. Let me tell you. Their side of the story when we came and
knocked was so mind blowing. They told us normally they would close
the door on people like us, but the girl felt like she needed to
listen to what we had to say. She was so surprised at herself that she
listened, and didn't close the door. I am so excited to see this
family grow.

Later that day we were in the car waiting our turn at the stop sign
when this car is backing up out of its parking spot right into us!
Luckily the old man saw us in time. Lucky the car didn't get hit. And
the old man was going slow enough not to do any damage if he was to
hit us. We made it out untouched though! Haha.

I finally used my umbrella. It rained for a good day and a half.

I got to go the the temple.... Okay I forgot when, but I went. It was
so nice and a member drove us and after we went to Olive Garden for
lunch.

I can not believe another week has gone by so fast...

I love you all,
Sister Slattery

Week 5: 2nd Week in the Field

Hello everyone!

Well things are great. I feel much more relaxed now that I am in a
routine. My trainer is great, she kinda reminds me of Delanie... So
nothing I can't handle haha. She is great though.

One thing that is super annoying is the ants! Ants are in the kitchen,
and everywhere else, but mainly in the kitchen. I pray to Heavenly
Father that they will die. Or at least stay out of my food. I had to
throw away a whole box of life cereal after eating one bowel of it.
There was ants in my cereal! And I was not going to eat that. The
people who own the apartments I guess are not spraying for ants even
though everyone is having problems with ants. We did get some ant
poison from a member and that seems to distract the ants from the
cupboards.

This one less active lady we meet with likes to knit and so that is
how we connect with her. We give a lesson and she teaches us to knit,
but I am no good so I asked if I could crochet. I love it. What a
wonderful way for me to spend my down time and relax. I am making a
scarf.

Today's adventures took me on a hike and to the beach. There was so
many trees! I was half expecting I would see a vampire or a werewolf
haha jk; but that would have been cool. It is so cold! Oh my goodness.
Plus just so all y'all know I am writing this email in the car on our
way back. I have got nothing done that I needed to get done. Plus we
may or may not have a meeting at 6. So... There goes my p-day. I have
not had the chance to email mom. We stopped at a church and I was able
to send some emails out, but not the important ones. My iPad won't let
me send to my big group contacts, so hopefully I will be able to get
to a real computer.

I have yet to use my umbrella. The mornings are cold, but it warms up
throughout the day. I have decided that the green growth on EVERYTHING
is really gross. However I still love green. Side note- talking about
nature- yesterday there was three deer on the side of the road! I was
so excited to see them. My companion thought I was silly haha.

I have yet had fish for dinner thank heavens (knock on wood). We get a
lot of pasta which is good, it keeps me going. Nothing compares to my
momma's cooking though. We went out to eat to celebrate my comps 9
months. We went to burgerville and got a -you guessed- it a burger,
and a shake. We also went to this Mexican restaurant.. It was okay for
a little down dine in. I miss cooking though. I don't have a lot of
time to cook.

Days feel like weeks and weeks feels like days. I keep hoping that one
day soon I will wake up and all this time will have passed by. I of
course will enjoy each day, and live in the moment. I have lots of
work to do.

With love,
Sister Slattery
